Slipping In The Water
I watched him on the outside
Slipping in the water
Caught him in my headlights
I caught him in the full moon
I guess I’ll never know
What drove him to the lake side
I guess I’ll never know
Why he slipped into the water.
It was twenty-five to ten
I was talking to my daughter
We caught a final glimpse
As he slipped into the water
I guess I’ll never know
this story was unfolding
I guess I’ll never know
We’re witness to this carnage
He stood there on the shore
Staring in the darkness
With his feet there in the dust
Just like I did
How was I to know
As he dived into the water
I saw him coming up for air
Just like I did
I watched him in the water
Slipping into the darkness
But I caught him in my headlights
And I caught him in the full moon
I guess I’ll never know
Who drove him to the lake side
And I guess I’ll never know
Why he slipped into the water
He stood there on the shore
Staring in the darkness
With his feet there in the dust
Just like I did
But how was I to know
As he dived into the water
Saw him coming up for air
Just like I did
